In 1994 we began holding three-day 'options camps' (community camps for Wyong and Gosford) with guests coming from Aged & Disability Support Services (Adssi) and later on Hunter Area Health. These respites catered for a variety of different guests including the frail aged, intellectually delayed, those with dementia and the young disabled. Since then the number of respites has grown due to popularity.
In 2018 these respites were split into two groups:
- NDIS respite for adults and children with an intellectual disability and or physical disability.
- My Aged Care guests through Adssi HomeLiving Australia and seniors retreats for people over the age of 55.
Activities at these respites can include; barbecues, bingo, bus trips, cooking, craft, discussion groups, games, hand and foot massages, and live entertainment. Our program team ensure all guests enjoy a wide variety of interesting, entertaining and relaxing activities. Also, plenty of free time provides for guests to mingle and enjoy friendship with each other.
Camp Breakaway's professional kitchen staff provide a wide variety of meals and often cater to guests with special dietary needs, i.e., diabetic, gluten-free, vegan.
Camp Breakaway employs registered nurses and Cert III and Cert IV staff to look after seniors retreat guests, and this includes providing companionship during their stay and attending to their oral hygiene, showering, dressing and assistance with meals.
